i totally agree with you specially when you say "free software ain't about profit it's about freedom" but they have their own opinion about this which is hard to be denied, like, some level of testing and resource allocation can also help ensure that the software remains reliable and beneficial for everyone and also finding a balance between openness and sustainability might ultimately lead to more meaningful progress for all....blah blah & blah
what my say on this is...take OpenAI for example. OpenAI is not so ^Open^ even if you pay for it. It's full of restrictions at some level. the same situation goes with google, apple, microsoft, claude etc etc etc. They still control us even if they provide some services for free...but...my friend..."Nothing in this world is truly free", I hope you understand what it actually means.....and that's the crucial aspect of the conversation!
