Those were the released prisoners used for cannon fodder. But I must administrativt, that I have been wondering about, what tactical advantage Bakhmut have in tjos context. Maybe its just Putins megalomania that kicked in, as he saw it as a symbol of his superiority.

Tanks for the videos  ?

There's this perception regarding decision making that says that if you already invested in something, you are likely to keep on investing even if the final reward is bullshit. I think Bakhmut just became a 'who has a bigger dick' destination.

It was of small strategic value in the start, but ended up as a symbolic value, for the rissians.

If I were an opponent, I would seize it as an opportunity, to lock My enemy in place, for the greater purpose, and / or to support my own strategy.

War can and is a center if difficult calculations, sacrifice someone / something to get the upper hand.

Its a difficult choice!

Reminds me that people said, for both sides, that the purpose was to pin the other side to one place and bleed them out. Reminds me that the Germans tried that in Verdun. Both bled each other, that was for sure..

There is no doubt, that it was a meat grinder. And the reasons for the fight over it can be many - at the start it had some strategic value, due to the roads - but then it became symbolic - and whether or not, it was a tactical move from either side, it have had the troops locked in that area for some time.

Only time will tell what was really going on, if it becomes known i my lifetime.

It's amazing how we always tend to think that the reasons are something beyond our perceptions and knowledge and then at some point you realize that the involved actors just used the logic of a 7 year old. The more this war progresses, I believe that the Russians went fully 15 year old bully mindset who got a slap but cannot allow himself to look weak.

Tend to agree but it's not only one decision maker who decides. Look at Putin, like every other dic(k)tator, who knows whether he gets accurate information? Hitler was getting false info because he was feared. No doubt in corrupt Russia, where lying and bragging are a state of the art, he got some shitty info from his ass-licking generals.
