This topic on the forum mentions ExpressVPN, NordVPN, CyberGhost, Surfshark, and PIA as the best VPNs for the dark web, but I beg to differ and completely disagree. ExpressVPN was once a great VPN service provider, but it is now owned by Israeli spyware and malware distributor firm, Kape Technologies. The same goes for PIA VPN; it was indeed one of the best as well before it was sold to Kape Technologies. Funny enough, CyberGhost is also owned by Kape Technologies. 

I don't know how anyone in their right mind would list these companies when a known spyware firm owns them. So, these VPNs are straight-up spyware on your device. 

NordVPN is owned by Nord Security, which is based in Lithuania, so since it is in the EU, I would expect some decency and privacy from them. Surfshark merged with Nord Security in 2022, so using Surfshark or NordVPN does not make any difference. HOWEVER, the VPN I use has a proven track record of not keeping logs; therefore, there is no sharing of logs and no affiliate marketing. They were recently raided by Swedish police (since they are based in Sweden), who went back to their bunkers empty-handed because there was nothing to share.

This VPN has recently collaborated with Tor Project to release a privacy based browser. It's the famous:

Nahh bro i dont trust these VPN companies especially those who explicitly says "We dont keep your logs". Such a BS.

Solution, host your own VPN its pretty easy there is a one click script on github on VPN setup. Host it on your own server. If you still are paranoid, make your own config from scratch.

The VPN that you will host on your own rented server will be more affected to subpoenas than per example a company like Mullvad which has a lot of clients and a lot to lose when they start logging people. Also your rented server will also have logging through the host company, they log all incoming and outgoing connection and they will not defend your ass when a warrant is coming in.

Exactly, look for a company that doesnt give a shit about subpoena. They are not even a company. Everything through crypto and no info that could lead back to you.
Even if you are subpoena and they do catch you, then its your opsec not your vpn.
