Well hello,
If you are new and think about diffrent dump formats lately.
Figured I'd write a quick rundown on the main dump formats you'll encounter around here, thier pros, and thier cons so you stop wasting time trying to parse the wrong file type.
1. Raw SQL Dumps (.sql) Basically a full database export containing schema tables and raw
queries.
alt) Credential exports directly from user auth tables containing hashed passwords rather than plain text.
Cheers,

INSERT- Advantags: You get the full picture. All tables, foreign keys, and relational data stay intact. You can recreate the exact DB structure on your local environment.
- Disadvantags: Huge file sizes that take forever to import. Also, syntax mismatch is a nightmare if the export was made on MariaDB and you're trying to import to PostgreSQL or an older MySQL version.
- Advantags: Super lightweight and fast. Very easy to pipe into
, custom python scripts, or automated checkers without needing a full DB running.grep
- Disadvantags: You lose all context and metadata.
- Advantags: Extremely portable. Easy to load directly into Python pandas, Excel, or NoSQL setups. Simple to pick and filter specific columns while tossing out what you dont need.
- Disadvantags: CSVs break constantly if unescaped commas or quote marks exist inside user text fields. JSON files get unnecessarily huge because field keys repeat on every single record.
alt) Credential exports directly from user auth tables containing hashed passwords rather than plain text.- Advantags: Uniform, clean formatting that drops straight into Hashcat or the Ripper. Very compact even with millions of accounts.
- Disadvantags: Completely useless until cracked. If the hashing scheme uses salts, you're going to burn serious GPU cycles before getting anything readable.
- Advantags: Holds volatile data that never gets written to disk—active session tokens, transient encryption keys, and decrypted process memory.
- Disadvantags: Massive file sizes crammed with binary noise and garbage data. You cant just read it with a text editor; you need specialized tools like Volatility to carve out anything useful.
Cheers,
