Discussion about the evolution of hashing algorithms over the years

I find it interesting to look at how hashing algorithms have evolved over the years, from MD5 to SHA1 to bcrypt and argon2. It is amazing how quickly what was once considered secure becomes completely outdated. SHA1 for example was widely used for password storage not that long ago and now it is considered completely broken for that purpose. What are your thoughts on the current state of password hashing and where you think things are headed in the next few years? Always interesting to discuss this topic.
