TF1 and BFM both said the investigation was focused on a lack of moderators on Telegram, and that police considered that this situation allowed criminal activity to go on undeterred on the messaging app.

EU has been trying to shut down encrypted communications for awhile. Telegram is a known medium for upstanding gentlemen like those on this forum as well as those in crypto.  If you look at the language they're using to try and hold Elon Musk liable for things that happen on his platform, it was only a matter of time before they could find a way to attack telegram. This is the beginning of a domino effect
