Hey everyone,
Taking a quick break from the usual grind. I've been on a bit of a binge lately and I'm looking for recommendations that will completely destroy my soul. I want to see what you guys consider the absolute saddest anime out there. Here is my current top 3 for maximum emotional damage:
1. Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka) An absolute classic. If you haven't watched this movie, you are missing out. It shows the raw, brutal reality of war through the eyes of two kids. I watched it once and I honestly don't think I have the strength to ever watch it again.
2. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners A bit more modern and fits the vibe of this forum perfectly. The world-building is great, but the way everything spirals out of control for David and the crew is just depressing. The ending leaves you feeling completely empty.
3. Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso) Starts off looking like a standard slice-of-life/music anime, but the psychological and emotional weight hits you like a truck in the second half.
Honorable Mentions: Clannad: After Story and Violet Evergarden.
