Umbreon's trial will be this Friday (October 20). It's a bench trial, and he tells me that he anticipates it will last a few hours because a lot of stuff has already been worked out. He has no idea what sentence the judge will impose when sentencing is announced a few weeks later, but he tells me he is prepared for a long sentence.
One of the few things where Umbreon really pushed back against the prosecution case involved their claims about how much money he allegedly got and laundered. Umbreon had told me that the prosecution seemed to be double counting certain funds -- like money going into a wallet and then being moved to a different wallet, etc.
Umbreon recently met with the prosecution personnel involved in calculating how much he allegedly made and laundered. For the first time since he was arrested in January 2023, he was on a laptop and he explained to them -- and taught them -- how to track some transactions. They recorded the session, of course, and asked him questions about different methods of doing these calculations about transactions.
As a result of what he showed them, they lowered their estimate of his laundering by about 500k+ euros in one case, and then another 500k+ euros in a second case. So the prosecution has now lowered their claims by 1.2 million euros. That will save him a lot on restitution, although he will still have a lot to repay over his lifetime. I'm not sure if he will meet with them again about other transactions.
I expect that I will hear from him after the trial and I will try to write up something by early next week. It seems that the court has now decided that the corporate victims will NOT be named in open court on Friday. They will only be mentioned as victims 1, 2, 3... etc.
