technically yes because otherwise u outsource ur worries to some poorly paid monkeys somewhere who cant do basic sec shit. Alternatively, u get fucked by a xz utils type backdoor that wasnt caught and u keep getting fucked until today. Trusting CS or OS is like trusting your hammer or handyman - based on the environment u setup for these tools to work in, now thats where trust matters imo

It depends on the program. Actually, I believe that many paid programs may collect personal information for commercial purposes, such as selling data to third parties. On the other hand, open source programs are not primarily motivated by commercial interests. Although not all open source projects are completely secure

I guess the question would be, what would the Internet be like without open source?
Risks always exist but I think it's nice to believe in the freedom of unlicensed software. The biggest example is Linux

Nothing is risk-free, including open-source projects. If I was a top wanted criminal I wouldn't even trust Linux, so I'd either throw my devices and live in the woods, or spend 20 years rewriting everything from scratch.

Open source is Internet Conmunism and done more to move tech forward for both consumer and professional than any patent ever has
