Tokyo Ghoul Anime vs Manga

Im thinking about starting Tokyo ghoul but im not sure whether to read the manga or watch the show. Lots of people say the manga is way better than the show but Ive lowkey never read a manga in my life so i dont know if its worth starting as its probably gonna ruin the experience.
