So i just finished playing this.....i had seen the playthroughs before the game was originally released now i got to experience it myself.....I'm just confused with these few of things.....
- Was Joel right? (Saving Ellie)
- WTF was the ending.... (Ellie finding Abby but then kind of saving her...?)
- Was it all in the end breaking the revenge cycle...?

Joel was wrong to save Ellie, she gave her consent to die for the good of all, but Joel took his unresolved Father trauma and destroyed mankinds chance to save itself.
The story posits the 'Cycle of Violence' where both Ellie & Abby were on a path of vengeance, only to both be completed fucked over. Abby lost all her friends, and Ellie lost her partner and settled life. Revenge serves nothing & no-one.

The last line was a very good answer.
But for the first answer where you say joel is wrong and Ellie giving consent and stuff...don't you think Ellie was too young and had a lot of guilt about the people dying ??

FUCK okay i accidentally closed this tab and it deleted my message i was writing so here again:
adding to this i really liked how abby and ellie's character development were opposites throughout the story. abby started out vengeful and full of hate, doing everything and willing to sacrifice everything to kill joel. throughout the story also after being introduced to lev, she learns about empathy and moving on. ellie on the other hand, who at least tries to start a new life (while still struggling as we know since joel lied to her) then throughout the story turns to being hateful, also willing to leave dina and the baby just to kill abby even after that whole showdown in the theatre basement or whatever its called. so what im trying to say is that both characters had a 180 flip in their character development yet in the end both of them kinda got a resolve. abby gets to escape alive and with lev. ellie gets to return to dina and the kid (at least i hope thats how it is, my interpretation is that dina returned to town and that ellie is back with them).

i guess morally speaking its more about that joel was willing to save one girl instead of.. well.. possibly all of humanity. thats talking IF they wouldve been able to also create a vaccine/ antidote or whatever the fuck they were trying. maybe they wouldve failed and it would have all been for nothing in joels perspective. from an outer perspective i think joel was def wrong. from his perspective, i can understand why he did what he did. its in our nature to do dumb shit lmao.

Same here! I loved that duality of the story, it harked back to Fahrenheit 911/Indigo Prophecy where you played both the killer and the cop in tandem, and your actions on each side affected how the opposite carried the story, pure genius!
