LUKS - Linux Unified Key Setup, it's the most common reason why hackers use Linux. LUKS protects your data, if someone physically accesses your computer, they will see your encryption and drop it. On some distributions you can setting up this. Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu and others include this option in their installers, if they don't you can use this guide for Arch Linux and this guide for Gentoo in general, they are equivalent.
