If you take your perspective and apply it to the person entirely, you have made a mistake, for your perspective is only that which he lets you see. This doesn't have anything to do with online or offline friends, this is just society as a whole. You aren't a fool at all, because for what you knew, it was and still is completely reasonable to befriend him, your perception of a person and who they really are never cross, completely different things.
