Fake leaks

There's also the dumb factor behind fake leaks.

Like the guy yesterday that said he and a friend breached a bunch of sensitive information on 400,000 companies in Israel. It turned out to be a run-of-the-mill Illinois (USA) business database from 2010, that someone had posted here a few hours earlier. A normal person outside of the US might see "IL" and not know that it was a US company. But you have to be pretty dumb (and have little knowledge of Israel) to try to get credits for a file not having any clue that it is 14 years old or even what country it is from (and then having the balls to say that you "breached" something).

That's data, not a real leak/breach, but I'm sure it's the same for typical leaks.

Also, a few people recently decided to take public documents (usually from governments) and claim that they were sensitive documents and leaks, usually claiming they hacked into a server to get them. Often you can just do a Google search on something in the sample to find the source. Again, not real leaks but similar.

I've noticed a few dbs I have had some records removed. Like hundreds or even more in some. I can tell because the id that's in there, skips a few increments. Other than potentially the person/group that got the db removing themselves and maybe their friends, is there any other reason for this?
Or is it just users who delete their account on the website?

I've seen that too, where there might be 420,000 lines but the IDs go up to 430,000. My guess is that they are people who deleted their accounts. Most websites seem to keep the accounts and mark them as deleted (so they won't show up in user lists, but will still be in the database).

This would make sense if they numbers skip ever so often. I wonder if any of the data gets tampered with on purpose. Maybe LE doesn't want their emails in certain dumps or whatever, so they will remove their stuff. If they do a takedown, they can re-upload with their emails and stuff missing. Maybe it's to much a hassle to put md5 or SHA1 sums for these large files, but it'd be cool to know how many times down the line my database was altered. I feel I'm wayy downstream. Lots to learn.

I'm updating with information from @jb75 and @Satanic on this fake problem. The moderators have done a major cleanup.

I think they are not complete because they want to eliminate information such as the linkedin database
