Some of you may know that when the government recently seized Pom's domains, they also seized a domain he no longer owned.
On June 15, Pom offered to give me Breaches.net. It had only been used by him for lawful content and had nothing to do with bf.st. Pom realized he wouldn't get to use his domains in the foreseeable future and offered it to me as a gift, refusing my offer to pay him for it. I accepted his offer because the domain name is just perfect for my work. He gave me the creds to enable me to transfer it to my registrar under my name, and all was good. Or so I thought until a few days later when a SEIZED notice appeared on it.
So I contacted the FBI and asked if they could help me get the domain unseized as it wasn't Pom's at the time of the seizure. The smart money was betting that they wouldn't. But they responded promptly that they would look into the situation and a few days later, they asked me for proof of ownership, payment of registrar, etc. etc. I sent them a bunch of screencaps to show Pom offered it to me and I registered it under my name on June 15 and had set up nameservers on CF.
Yesterday, the FBI asked me for a quick meeting by phone. When we met, they told me I would be getting the domain unseized, but to expect it to take time as they have to go through a whole court procedure because there had been a warrant and an order involved. So it will not be quick, but I will eventually have Breaches.net back as my domain that I can develop, thanks to the kindness of Pom who donated it to me to use for good purposes and thanks to the FBI agents who responded quickly and helpfully.
And yes, I know most of you hate the FBI and a lot of you may hate journalists, but I look forward to the day I can get a site going on that domain that has a notice saying that the domain name was donated by Pom. It speaks volumes about his character that while it would be understandable if he was self-absorbed in his own problems, he still thought about doing something nice for someone else.
