Death Note might work well for someone new to anime.

"Death Note" is a gripping psychological thriller with a unique premise that can captivate even those who aren't regular anime fans. The story follows Light Yagami, a brilliant high school student who discovers a mysterious notebook called the "Death Note." This notebook grants the power to kill anyone whose name is written in it.

The series revolves around the moral dilemmas and cat-and-mouse game that ensues when Light decides to use the Death Note to rid the world of criminals, and a genius detective known only as "L" is determined to catch him.

"Death Note" stands out for its intense suspense, strategic battles of wit, and exploration of ethical questions. It's a dark and thought-provoking anime that doesn't rely on many of the typical anime tropes, making it accessible to a wide range of viewers.

Give "Death Note" a chance, and you might find yourself drawn into the captivating world of this psychological thriller, even if you're not a regular anime enthusiast.
