The Taliban has prevented a group of 125 female students from leaving Afghanistan to pursue higher education in Dubai, the BBC reported. The students, who had won scholarships to study at the American University of Afghanistan, were blocked at Kabul airport on Saturday by Taliban officials. They were told that they could not travel without a male guardian and that their visas were invalid. The students said they felt betrayed and hopeless after being denied the opportunity to continue their education. They also feared for their safety and future under the Taliban regime, which has imposed strict restrictions on women’s rights and freedoms. The US State Department said it was aware of the situation and was working with its partners to facilitate the students’ departure.
