Unfortunately, the five people inside the submarine died as the submarine imploded.
How they died:
After the failure, the pressure applied to the submarine's hull made an explosion unfeasible. Instead, the collapse of the structure resulted in an implosion, meaning it occurred internally rather than externally.
"It implodes because the hull is filled with air. Air is highly compressible, unlike water, which is not. So, all the pressure from the water surrounding the hull - imagine a column of water 4 km above that hull - exerting pressure from all sides," evaluated.
