I really enjoyed Shidonia no Kishi, (or Knights of Sidonia in English). I didn't expect to like it that much, because it uses 3D animation with a low frame rate. The overall plot can be summarized with: Humanity encountered hostile aliens and was wiped off the earth. Several evacuation vessels were build and the plot follows the vessel Sidonia. The MC starts off as an outcast and at first has trouble integrating with the others. Later the anime evolves to feature big mech fights and some philosophical questions.
