Yes, there are a lot of people on this planet that believe lots of different things. Some people believe that the world is flat. Some people believe that tin foil hats protect you from alien mind reading.

But, I ask you this: Do you know what time, down to the minute, this was collected? Do you know whether the data was modified after it was collected? Do you know the message that came with it? Do you know when previous Twitter breaches occurred, and what changes Twitter made as a result?

If you want to debate this further, please first explain how your imagined non-employee shitty scraper of public data got a list of 2.8 billion screennames or user 64-bit IDs (e.g. Carlos58406696=1325702412074618880 and NhiNguy71174542=1229772096290443265). That's the million dollar question. And no, I don't (yet, at least) have an answer to that one.

Well, I'll happily consider thinking about your possibility... if you can explain how someone can find 2.8 billion accounts with 15+ character screennames and 64-bit user IDs to scrape.

A typical scrape might loop through accounts numbers from 1 to the highest possible (stopping when data stops after the highest account number). Or maybe do a brute force "a", "b"... "z", "aa", "ab"... which by 8 characters (less than the average Twitter screenname length) would hit over 3 trillion lookups you'd need to make.

I have yet to see an explanation of how someone could enumerate all the accounts without either a very serious hack (in which case they would very likely have emails/phones/passwords), or employee level access of some sort (still unknown how that could be done).

But a scrape defies logic due to enumeration. For 15 character screennames (the current max, but some are longer), it would take 333,446,267,951,815,307,088,493 lookups. Going through all possible user IDs? 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 lookups.
